Strassel worked as a staff writer covering technology for The Wall Street Journal Europe in London from 1996 to 1999 and as a news assistant for the European version of The Wall Street Journal in Brussels from 1994 to 1996. Before becoming an assistant features editor on the editorial page, she relocated to New York in 1999 to cover real estate.
In 2005, she joined The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board and rose to the position of senior editorial writer. She started penning The Wall Street Journal’s enduring “Potomac Watch” section in 2007. In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece shortly before the November 2020 election, Strassel pushed allegations regarding Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. Hours later, the newspaper’s own news division refuted Strassel’s assertions.
Strassel asserted that there were voting irregularities in the 2020 presidential election following Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump. Strassel stated that Wisconsin’s election turnout percentage was “not feasible” in November 2020.

In an editorial published in October 2017, Strassel criticized Fusion GPS as “the intelligence outfit that commissioned former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to compile the now infamous, and erroneous Trump–Russia dossier.”
In the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, Strassel suggested that teachers be provided stun grenades to safeguard their kids. By October 2019, President Donald Trump had tweeted about Strassel or retweeted her comment more than 20 times and had advocated for her to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize.
