Albert was named the winner of the Sony Innovators Talent Search, in 1987 by Quincy Jones. He went on to collaborate with Jones on other projects, including the platinum 1990 hit “The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)” from Jones’ double-platinum album Back on the Block. In addition, he was one of four musicians on this recording, with Barry White, El DeBarge, and James Ingram.
Additionally, his 1988 first album, In Effect Mode, sold over three million copies and topped the Billboard R&B chart for seven consecutive weeks. It featured the singles “Nite and Day,” which topped the R&B chart and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Similarly, he was nominated for multiple Grammys and American Music Awards (AMAs), and he won the Best New R&B Artist category.
Moreover, he also garnered multiple Soul Train Award nominations and won Best New Artist. Likewise, he also received many New York Music Awards. More so, his 1-900 phone line generated the third most money, after only New Kids on the Block and Run-D.M.C.
Furthermore, he joined Hidden Beach Recordings in 2009. His first single for the label, “I Love It (Papi Aye, Aye, Aye),” debuted at No. 33 on the Radio & Records Urban AC chart. The album Honey, I’m Home was published on June 23, 2009.
