He began his career in television news in 1995 while still a student at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado. His internship led to his first job in media as a morning anchor and noon weatherman.
Afterwards, he worked for the news in Mankato, Minnesota, Yuma, and Tucson. In addition, he formed and served as the first president of the Casas Adobes Optimist Club.
