Rather is a vastly recognized journalist, commentator, and correspondent. He is widely known for his coverage of both the CBS Sunday Night News and the CBS Saturday Evening News. Likewise, he served as the host of The Wall Within CBS News special.

He also worked as a White House correspondent and foreign correspondent in London and Vietnam. During this time, he led the report coverage of Richard Nixon’s presidency, trip to China, and resignation due to the Watergate scandal.

Most noteworthy, he was one of the US “Big Three” nightly news anchors along with NBC’s Tom Brokaw and ABC’s Peter Jennings. It is also known that he served as the host of the Dan Rather Reports 60 Minutes–style investigative news program.

He had his career start in journalism at KTRK ABC News as a reporter in Houston. Afterward, he joined KHOU CBS News where he served as a news director where he covered Hurricane Carla. He also served as a play-by-play announcer for the Texas League Houston Buffs.
