Diallo’s Career

Following their Harvard days, Riddle and his creative partner, Bashir Salahuddin, founded Cleo’s Apartment, a sketch comedy group. This ensemble featured talents like Robin Thede, Thomas Fraser, Wyatt Cenac, Nika King, and Nefetari Spencer. Their live performances eventually transformed into the web series “The Message,” co-produced by AOL and HBO in 2007.

Riddle and Salahuddin, through their production company J30 Studios, have embarked on numerous collaborative projects over the years. They’ve inked a multi-year deal with Warner Bros TV to develop and produce TV ventures.

In August 2022, it was revealed that the duo would act as showrunners, executive producers, and writers for “Book of Marlon,” a comedic series inspired by Marlon Wayans’ life and career. In 2008, Riddle joined the writing staff of Comedy Central’s “Chocolate News.” The following year, he became part of the writing staff for “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” where he also displayed his performing prowess.

Notable contributions include co-writing segments like “Slow Jam The News” with Barack Obama and three installments of “A History of Rap” with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake. In 2013, Riddle filmed an HBO pilot for “The Reporters” and secured a recurring role in the HBO show “Silicon Valley.”

In 2015, HBO greenlit “Brothers in Atlanta,” a series written by and starring Riddle. Unfortunately, the show’s order was canceled in early 2016. 2017 saw Riddle take up a regular role in the HBO sitcom “Marlon,” portraying Stevie, Marlon Wayans’ best friend.

Simultaneously, Comedy Central embraced his comedy show titled “South Side.” Riddle also landed a recurring role on the drama series “Rise.” His writing talents extended to various TV series, including “The Last O.G.,” headlined by Tracy Morgan.

2018-2023

Among his diverse projects, Riddle contributed to the music curation of the film “Baby Driver” and served as a writer for television specials such as “Taraji and Terrence’s White Hot Holidays,” “Maya and Marty,” and “The Maya Rudolph Show.”

In May 2018, IFC greenlit “Sherman’s Showcase,” a scripted musical variety sketch comedy show that Riddle co-wrote with Bashir Salahuddin. This series, produced by John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co., premiered on July 31, 2019, on IFC.

On September 4, 2019, Comedy Central and WBEZ Chicago introduced “South Side Stories,” a unique podcast collaboration celebrating the real-life inspirations behind the hit-scripted comedy series. Riddle and Salahuddin co-hosted this 10-episode podcast.

In 2020, “South Side” received renewal for another season by Comedy Central, with streaming on HBO Max scheduled for 2021. The second season of “South Side” was released on November 11, 2021. Furthermore, the third season of “South Side” debuted on August 12, 2022.

In June 2020, it was confirmed that a second season of the Emmy-winning show, “Sherman’s Showcase,” was in the works and slated for AMC in 2021. This second season of “Sherman’s Showcase” premiered on October 26, 2022. More recently, the duo of Riddle and Salahuddin inked a deal with Warner Bros. Television Studios.
