Benson produced The Sandy Rios Show, a local afternoon radio program with Christian Right pundit Sandy Rios on WYLL-AM in Chicago, after graduating with honors from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 2007. In July 2010, Rios relocated to Washington, D.C.
After writing pieces for Townhall.com since February 2008, Benson was promoted to political editor in 2010. Benson also makes contributions to Hot Air, Townhall’s sibling website. He previously contributed to the Media Blog at National Review Online and Andrew Breitbart’s “Big” websites. He frequently appears on The Hugh Hewitt Show as a guest and stand-in host.
Benson began contributing to Fox News in 2013. At the moment, he hosts Fox News Radio’s The Guy Benson Show. The video made national news, from Fox News to the Boston Globe, since Barack Obama was chastised for his affiliations with Ayers and Dohrn during the 2008 presidential campaign. Two other times during the 2008 presidential campaign, Benson attracted national attention. Benson, who was in the studio when the interview took place, described his experience in August, following the Obama campaign’s attack on Chicago’s WGN radio for permitting Stanley Kurtz to appear on their station.
