Jamie Foxx, born Eric Marlon Bishop, is a well-known American actor, comedian, and singer who has worked in both film and music. He has earned numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a Grammy, a British Academy Film Award, and a Golden Globe. Foxx’s breakthrough came in the early 1990s with In Living Color, after which he co-created and starred in The Jamie Foxx Show.

His stage name, Jamie Foxx, was a tribute to the black comic Redd Foxx, and he felt it was ambiguous enough to preclude any biases when he discovered that female comedians were frequently called first to perform. In 1991, Foxx joined the cast of In Living Color, where the name of his recurring character Wanda was similar to that of Redd’s coworker and friend LaWanda Page. From 1996 to 2001, Foxx starred in his own sitcom, The Jamie Foxx Show, which he co-created and produced through his company Foxx Hole Productions. The Jamie Foxx Show is April 17, 2009, episode featured a number of offensive and sexually explicit remarks about underage singer Miley Cyrus from Foxx and his co-hosts. Several days later, Foxx apologized on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in reaction to a rising public backlash and broadcast condemnation from Cyrus’ father, country musician Billy Ray Cyrus.
