Wendt is a vastly recognised television host who began her career as a journalist for ATV-10 evening news. She later became the first reporter for the Australian Nine Network’s 60 Minutes in 1982. Likewise, she contributed stories to the American CBS 60 Minutes.

Additionally, she hosted A Current Affair on Nine Network from 1987 to November 1992. She also made appearances on the Dateline on SBS and Witness on Seven as well as other ABC programmes. In 2003, she made a comeback to Channel Nine as the Sunday host.

Moreover, she departed the Nine Network on September 1, 2006. It is known that she received A$2 million compensation after leaving, which covered the remaining 2.5 years of her assigned tenure. In addition, due to The Release magazine’s connection to the Nine Organisation, she was fired from her regular “Lunch” feature.

Furthermore, 10 days after she left Nine, she consented to go on stage at the Seven Network’s 50 Years of Television celebration. She co-hosted the News and Current Affairs segment alongside fellow Nine Network alumnus Ian Ross of Sydney. At the 2018 Logies, she gave the show 60 Minutes the Logies Hall of Fame award.
