A triple negative diagnosis is not fatal, though, since Griffin received 17 rounds of chemotherapy and an experimental medication called carboplatin, which is typically used to treat colon cancer. Since she received a full pathological response, she is no longer affected by cancer. In order to maximize the benefits of chemotherapy, Griffin wanted her immune system to be as robust as possible.
Griffin’s Career
Griffin covered the Second Palestinian Intifada, suicide bombings, military incursions, and failed peace agreements while stationed in Jerusalem prior to joining the Pentagon. She also covered Yasser Arafat’s funeral, Israel’s 2005 departure from the Gaza Strip, and Israel’s disengagement from Lebanon. She was one of the first reporters to arrive in the wake of the 2004 tsunami disaster in South-East Asia.
Griffin covered Nelson Mandela’s release from prison and South Africa’s transition from apartheid for The Sowetan newspaper in Johannesburg, South Africa, after graduating from college. Griffin fact-checked President Donald Trump’s assertion that the United States never made a promise to the Kurds in October 2019. Griffin verified the main points of an article published in The Atlantic in September 2020, but he was unable to verify the part that claimed President Trump had called dead American soldiers and veterans “losers” and “suckers.”
Griffin regularly corrected and fact-checked her Fox News colleagues when they made unfounded or unverified statements regarding the war in February 2022, before and shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Having been with the news section since those early days, she said she felt compelled to rectify these statements.
Griffin was elevated to Chief National Security Correspondent and signed a new multi-year contract with Fox News in September 2022. With round-the-clock Pentagon updates, she led FNC’s coverage of the war stateside and landed exclusive interviews with senior officials.
Griffin has been recognized for his exceptional dedication and skill in foreign affairs journalism by receiving the Transatlantic Leadership Network’s “Freedom of the Media” Gold Medal award for Public Service, which is given to a US news organization or individual.
