James Christian Kimmel is well known as an American television host, stand-up comedian, writer, and producer. In addition, he is the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a late-night talk show which aired on ABC on January 26, 2003, at Hollywood Masonic Temple in Hollywood, California; and also on April 1, 2019, at a secondary home, the Zappos Theater on the Las Vegas Strip.

Radio career

Inspired by David Letterman‘s begin in radio, Kimmel started serving in radio while in high school. Moreover, he was the host of a Sunday night interview show on UNLV’s college station, KUNV. While at Arizona State University, he was a famous caller to the KZZP-FM afternoon show hosted by radio personalities Kent Voss and Mike Elliott in Phoenix, Arizona.

Kimmel landed his first paying job together with Voss as morning drive co-host of The Me and Him Show at KZOK-FM in Seattle, Washington in 1989. The hosts performed several stunts on air, such as one that led to an $8,000 loss in advertising over the next 10 months.

In 1990, Jimmy and Voss were fired by KZOK and besides fired again a year later at WRBQ-FM in Tampa. In addition, he went on to host his own show at KCMJ in Palm Springs, California, where he recruited Carson Daly, who as well had been a family friend since his childhood as his intern.

Likewise, Kimmel initially did not want to do television; he started writing for Fox announcers and promotions and also became quickly recruited to do the on-air promotions himself. Kimmel started hosting the comedy podcast Strike Force Five along with Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and John Oliver to support their staff members out of work because of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike on August 30, 2023.
