Lis Wiehl is a New York Times bestselling American novelist and legal commentator. She is the author of twenty books, the most recent of which was Pegasus Books’ A Spy in Plain Sight: The Inside Story of the FBI and Robert Hanssen, America’s Most Damaging Russian Spy.

Wiehl began her career as a lawyer at Perkins Coie, in Seattle, where she also contributed bylined pieces to the New York Times on legal matters. She went on to work for the United States Attorney’s Office in Seattle as a third-generation federal prosecutor. Likewise, she served as the Democrats’ Deputy Chief Investigative Counsel on the House Judiciary Committee.

Additionally, she served as a tenured law professor at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle. During this time, the Trial Advocacy Programme earned multiple national accolades under her direction. She also worked as a reporter and legal commentator for NBC News and NPR’s All Things Considered while attending the University of Washington.

Moreover, she was a legal commentator for Fox News Channel, making weekly appearances on Lou Dobbs Tonight and the Imus morning shows. It is known that she hosted the podcast Wiehl of Justice and the Legal Lis radio programme. Her debut book, Winning Every Time: How to Apply a Lawyer’s Skills to Your Life Trials, was released in 2005 by Wiehl.

Furthermore, she was an adjunct professor of law at New York Law School and co-host of WOR Tonight With Joe Concha & Lis Wiehl on 710 WOR. She still makes appearances in the media on CNN, CBS, NBC, and NPR as a legal expert and pundit. She also lectures in colleges and universities, does keynote speeches, and speaks at bookstores, conferences, and literary festivals.

Lis Wiehl Bill O’Reilly Settlement

Lis raised sexual harassment charges against Bill O’Reilly in early 2017 and obtained a $32 million settlement from him. The deal was not signed by Fox News, which considered it as a private matter between O’Reilly and Wiehl. They allege they were not made aware of the financial implications.

She signed an affidavit on January 17, 2017, saying that she and O’Reilly had settled their dispute. Her charges and declaration highlighted O’Reilly’s sexual harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship, and sexually explicit e-mails. According to O’Reilly, he forwarded these e-mails to Wiehl, his personal lawyer, as part of a routine in which he forwarded any threatening e-mails he got to his lawyers.
