Her mother, Margaret, died in 2011 at the age of 105.

Berry attended Bath High School, where she described her educational abilities as “hopeless” until she audited home science lessons with Miss Date, a teacher who was particularly encouraging about her cooking abilities. Berry is a well-known television personality who rose to fame after serving as a judge on The Great British Bake Off. She began her career working as a salesperson at the Bath Electricity Board Showroom. During this time, she made home visits to clients’ houses to teach them how to use their electric ovens.

Additionally, she later worked at the Dutch Diary Bureau and studied City & Guilds classes in the evenings. She began her writing career as a recipe tester for the public relations business Benson’s. Similarly, she published her first book, ‘The Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook’, in 1970.

Moreover, she has currently produced over 75 culinary books including her best-selling cook book, Baking Bible. Her career took off when she was appointed culinary editor of ‘Housewife’ magazine in 1966. Afterward, she launched her cooking show, ‘Mary Berry Cooks’, in March 2014.

Furthermore, in February 2015, she appeared on another programme to raise funds for Comic Relief, a Third World charity. She also has a biographical documentary titled ‘The Mary Berry Story’. Michael Joseph wrote another autobiography of hers in 2013, titled ‘Recipe for Life’.
