He began his career as an apprentice to chef Peter Timmins at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Naples, Florida. Jose Andres’ The Bazaar was nominated for a James Beard Foundation Award for Best New Restaurant in 2008 during his term as Chef de Cuisine.

Additionally, he defeated his brother, Bryan Voltaggio, in the sixth season of Bravo’s cooking competition reality show Top Chef. He won the tournament after participating in the finale alongside Kevin Gillespie. Likewise, in September 2010, he participated as a guest judge on Season 3 of Top Chef Canada and the season six finale of Top Chef.
