During his tenure, Meehan became the first full-time helicopter reporter in the area, delivering crucial traffic updates and covering breaking news. In 2010, Meehan faced a career transition as his contract with WFXT-TV was not renewed. The station’s shift led to his departure from the role of Boston’s first full-time helicopter reporter. Though disappointed, he reflected fondly on his time covering stories from above. The station’s decision was driven by the shared use of a helicopter with WBZ-TV as a cost-cutting measure. His departure marked the end of an era that began when Fox25’s morning show launched in 2003, where he was part of the initial team.
