Dennis made his radio debut on Stuart’s BBC Radio Merseyside series Variety Time in 1971. He won the ITV talent competition New Faces in 1974 and appeared on a number of light entertainment shows. Similarly, he appeared on Russ Abbot’s Madhouse and The Russ Abbot Show in 1982.

Additionally, his West End credits include Amos Hart in Chicago and Bill Snibson in Me and My Girl. He has appeared in Skylight at Newbury’s Water Mill Theatre, Mr Wonderful at Chester’s Gateway Theatre, and Misery at Oldham’s Coliseum Theatre. Likewise, he also featured in Just Between Us and co-starred in Cherished Disappointments in Love at London’s Soho Theatre with Janet Suzman.

Moreover, he co-starred in a national tour of ‘Art’ with Christopher Cazenove and John Duttine. He also appeared as Norman Bartholomew in Anthony Shaffer’s dark comedy Murderer at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory. Later, he starred in the successful season of Neville’s Island at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Furthermore, he toured the United Kingdom as Mr. Fulton in High School Musical 2 from August 2009 to February 2010. He also toured as Wilbur Turnblad in Hairspray alongside Michael Ball, Brian Conley, and Michael Starke, who alternated as Edna Turnblad. In 2012, he played Professor Callahan in the touring production of Legally Blonde The Musical.
