Seacrest joined comedian Brian Dunkleman as co-host of the new Fox reality television series American Idol. The next year, he took over as the only host and presented the spin-off show American Juniors in 2003. In addition, in July 2009, he agreed to a $45 million contract extension with CKX to continue hosting American Idol, making him the highest-paid reality television host at the time.

Most noteworthy, in August 2005, he was chosen executive producer and co-host of ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. He hosted the majority of the show on December 31, 2005. Dick Clark’s performance was limited by speech and mobility issues brought on by his stroke recovery.
